No information has been found on this artist. However, the Tachibana family of painters was active in the Osaka region, and that Mitsunobu was a part of this family is supported in the present case by both the inscription and the artist's signature. The former reads: "Painted at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi in Kanan [Osaka]," and the signature includes "Naniwa," a poetic name for Osaka. The highly stylized rendition allows for interesting comparisons with the two other tiger paintings on display.
