prayer rug

Baluchi people

The three concentric diamond medallions in the field are filled with "latch-hook" motifs. The broad main border is filled with "Turkmen style" flowers (gül).

Light coral-red, brown-violet and light blue all are used to effectively complement the other colors and create a light palette.

An unusual feature of this type of rug is the broad, plain-woven kilim ends executed in the colors of the field.

Colonol Jeff W. Boucher, Alexandria, Virginia; given to Indianapolis Museum of Art (1996).
