Gift of Elizabeth Weymouth
Elizabeth Wemouth [b. 1943], New York, New York; through (Cora Ginsburg, Inc., Tarrytown, New York); given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1986.
Patterns played an important role in Halston's trademark beadwork for dresses, kaftans and tops. The chiffon fabrics became canvases for an explosion of beads and sequins.
The ingenuity of Halston's designs is evident in the beaded pattern of this dress. The weight of the beads in the fireworks pattern is distributed evenly all over the dress. Since the fabric was cut on the bias, this would prevent it from stretching.
