The bridge in this snowy winter scene is called a "taiko bridge" because it has the rounded shape of a taiko drum. Sunset Hill, or Y?hinooka, rising on the left, was at one time noted for the crimson maples that glowed in the late afternoon sunlight in autumn. Meguro is located in the southwestern part of the capital. Though now largely flattened by construction, the hills of Meguro once were the falcon-hunting grounds of the Tokugawa lords and a place where Edo citizens could view Mt Fuji.
