Kjell Wangensteen, Associate Curator of European Art: Though this work bears a signature and date, its quality is low enough to ensure that it is not by Mae's own hand, and is almost certainly a much later copy. Its overall appearance is marred by conspicuous losses around the girl's face and elsewhere.
