This piece, which dates to the early 5th century, reflects the strong Hellenic presence on Cyprus at this time, when the Cypriot king Euagoras welcomed Greek immigrants. The leaf crown is the traditional symbol of a Greek victor in athletic games, although here it may simply denote that the individual is culturally Greek. The face is softer and more youthful than the face of the bearded votary, and it wears the archaic smile that we see on figures from both Cyprus and mainland Greece during this period.
