Sale at (unidentified auction, New Ipswitch, New Hampshire) in about 1917;{1} (William J. Kaula, Greenville, New Hampshire); (J.W. McBrine, Boston); Sargent F. Collier, Boston, Massachusetts, by 1939; (Ivan Podgoursky, by 1946); Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes [1877-1958], Indianapolis, Indiana; The Clowes Fund, Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1958–2023, and on long-term loan to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, now the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, since 1971; given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, in 2023. {1} According to the catalogue raisonne, Goodrich 697, in 1939 William Kaula identified a photograph of this drawing as a work he acquired at an auction in New Ipswitch "sometime during the World War." The catalogue notes that New Ipswitch was the home of the Preston family, who were close relatives of Mrs. Charles S. Homer, Jr.
