Jean Dulong Collection, Amsterdam, by 1768 {1} Possibly Oppenheimer Collection, Vienna, Austria. {2} (Newhouse Galleries, New York, New York). Possibly (Max Safron, New York, New York). {3} Mr. and Mrs. Elijah B. Martindale, Indianapolis, Indiana; gift of Mrs. Elijah B. Martindale to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1967 (67.27).{4}; IMA deaccessioned June 2008; Sale 2135 (Christie's, New York, New York), 28 January 2009, lot 265 {1} This early provenance is given in Cornelis Hofstede de Groot, A Catalogue Raisonné of the works of the Most Eminent Dutch Painters of the Seventeenth Century, 8 volumes, 1908-27, volume 4, pp. 232-233, catalogue no. 736d, which indicates that parts of the Dulong collection, including this painting (no. 12), were sold in Amsterdam at Yver in the Sale Schilderyen; tekeningen; prenten on 18 April 1768. {2} Given in a leather-bound booklet prepared for Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Martindale, in IMA Historical Files (67.27) {3} The Martindale's used Max Safron to appraise their collection.{4} IMA Temporary Receipt No. 8060.
