This cape and crown, composed predominately of a lion’s skin and mane, were essential components of a warrior’s formal attire. Reserved for the military or civilian officials, these ensembles are now worn for commemorative and religious festivals in Ethiopia.
In many cultures, furs or skins of powerful animals were worn to signify the supremacy and energy of the wearer, the same qualities associated with the animal.
