The Peasant

Jules Dalou

Dalou preferred subjects from his own working-class background, rendered with a realistic approach based on direct observation. This man in wood shoes rolling up his sleeves was to be the center of a monument to workers. Like Millet's paintings of rural laborers, it has a noble presence.
