Standing Woman

Utagawa Kunisada (Japanese, 1786-1864)

The slight discoloration around the mouth of this figure is bothersome, yet it is not enough to completely detract from the beauty of her face and the image as a whole.

Prints are frequently discovered separately and subsequently joined together, as is the case here. In this instance, the prints do not correctly match up at the seam due to trimming of one or both of the prints.

Dr. Tom Kuebler, Indianapolis; given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2011 (TR11274).
