Gabriel Pionkowski painstakingly deconstructs readymade canvases, thread-by-thread, before hand painting each individual strand. He then reassembles the canvas by either re-weaving the strands on a traditional loom or draping individual threads to reveal the support beneath the surface. Untitled consists of a gridded painting stretcher and elements of unraveled canvas affixed on both ends to the rigid frame to form sweeping, horizontal bands. The threads delicately graze the gallery floor, and the work crosses the conceptual boundaries between painting, installation, and sculpture.

Purchased from the artist by the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2012.
