dress

Azzedine Alaïa, Designer (French, 1940-)

This garment, a great example of Alaïa’s precise tailoring and immaculate construction, has a fluid drape when placed on the body. The “mermaid” silhouette demonstrates Alaïa’s interest in representation of the ideal female form in figure-revealing stretchy, clinging knit fabrics.

(Beverley Birks, New York, New York); purchased by the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2011.
