Sash For Evening Ensemble

Halston, Designer (American, 1932-1990)

In a 1969 interview with the New York Post, Halston said, "I'm tired of flat, skin-tight clothes and everybody looking alike. I want more shape."

This ensemble consists of a halter top jumpsuit, jacket, and sash. Both the jacket and the wide-legged trousers are cut on the bias and pleated. The pleats are narrower at the top than the bottom, creating a sunburst effect.

Elizabeth Weymouth (b. 1943), New York; through (Stan Weaver, New York); given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art (1985).
