In this landscape the artist executed a traditional composition using brief, suggestive brushwork and bold color. The inscription reads:
Several hasty strokes naturally become interesting. A day before the beginning of spring in 1963.
艸艸數筆自有其趣。癸卯立春前一日。
Chiang studied painting in Yangzhou and Shanghai and worked at the Museum and Art Gallery in Guilin in southern China. He left China in 1949 for Hong Kong and New York. He made a fortune as a dealer of Chinese art, although his reputation suffered from allegations of shady transactions.
