Tokuda Yasokichi III was born in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture. He learned overglaze enameling techniques from his grandfather, Tokuda Yasokichi I, and contemporary pottery and porcelain from his father, Tokuda Yasokichi II. He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1997, following his father who received that same honor in 1953.
