Unknown German collection.{1} Attributed to Bartel Bruyn when acquired by the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1970 (70.141).{2} {1} Two tattered and faded labels, both in German - one with basic biographical details about Bartholomeus Bruyn, the other bearing the title "Allegorie mit der Zeit….(illegible)" - were removed from the painting when it was restored in 1949-50. {2} Although the painting was accessioned in 1970, it had arrived at the John Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana, now the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, from an unidentified owner by January 1949, as per Temporary Receipt No. 5241.
