Mark Description

Label, handwritten, adhered back side, corner: This quilt was made about 1800 | in Greenwich Village, which is now | the heart of New York City. It was | made by Mrs. John Grosher [sic.], whose | husband was at that time president | of the Greenwich Savings Bank.

Mrs. John Groshon, New York.{1} Collection of Marie Daughtery Webster; Mrs. Gerrish Thurber, Indianapolis, Indiana; through (Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, Vermont); given to Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1978. {1} According to a hand-written label on the back of the quilt that was applied sometime prior to the IMA's acquisition. The name on the label is misspelled as "Grosher" and contains other errors.
