Sō Shiseki (1712-1786)


During the Edo period, Chinese artists were allowed to live in the port city of Nagasaki. Japanese artists who studied under these Chinese masters developed a regional style known as the Nagasaki School, characterized by brightly colored bird and flower paintings rich in naturalistic detail.
