Ellen Lee, IMA Wood-Pulliam Distinguished Senior Curator, the IMA owns other landscapes by Ranger, as well as other American landscapes of the period. I don't see any particular resonance with another IMA collection. It is a mediocre work, and there are many better American landscapes in the collection that are more likely to be exhibited. This piece Mellon Curator Dr. Kim Orcutt observed that it was poorly lined. The IMA has a contract with Christie's for the disposal of this painting. Deaccession Policy
