Better than New Shop (Indianapolis) purchased (Miscellaneous Other Funds) by IMA March 18, 1975.
Designs on Caucasian rugs exhibit a strong relationship with earlier Turkish carpets. The bold geometric motifs, especially the hexagons with an inner stepped-diamond pattern, are seen in many types of rugs from the region.
Arranged in compartmental settings, each stepped diamond is enclosed with the hooked pattern. The star motif is depicted at the center of each medallion and is also repeated in the ivory-colored main border.
