Imperial beds were decorated with elaborate yellow silk bed valances that covered the curtain railings. This valance, like the throne cushion cover on the right, is decorated with imperial symbols reserved for the use of the emperor and his family. Five-clawed dragons, five-colored clouds, flaming pearls, ocean waters, and rock formations, all components of imperial iconography, can be seen on this valance. Six large dragons, symbols of the emperor, are embroidered in the main field, which is covered by six flaps also embroidered with dragons.
