This stunning silk blouse, densely embroidered with silk threads, is made from several brightly colored fabrics, and decorated with bold stylized motifs inspired by nature. The blouse was worn with a long, voluminous, and equally ornate skirt and a lightweight headscarf. Numerous small mirrors were added to provide shimmer and glitter under the bright sunlight.
The use of small pieces of mica in clothing was prevalent in South Asian and Southeast Asian textiles for centuries. Commercially made mirrors replaced mica, and were widely used as decorative elements.
