Ratner, Chicago, at an unknown date; Given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, now the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, in 1972. {1}Confirmed in a letter from Charles Durand-Ruel to IMA, dated 22 November 1972, notes that this transaction took place on 27 June 1914. A hand-written label, previously on the back of this painting , bears the Durand-Ruel Stock No. 10638. Another label, previously on the back of the painting says: Monsieur Albert André, peintre, 4 rue Duperre, Paris, envoi de G. d’Espagnat [illegible], Grand vitesse.” This label caused speculation that the painting was once owned by d’Espagnat’s friend Albert André, but Jacqueline George Besson, daughter of Albert André, denies this in a letter dated 28 November 1972. All correspondence in IMA Historical File (72.134). {2}Confirmed in the same 1972 letter from Charles Durand-Ruel to IMA cited above. The painting was alsoincluded in an exhibition at the Dayton Art Insitute, French Paintings 1789-1929 from the Collection of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., 1960, no. 92 (illustration). {3}Confirmed in a letter from Maurice Sternberg to IMA, dated 26 May 1971.
