Artist’s Statement
This work is generated by the notions of accumulation and reclamation of lost, forgotten or denied cultural information. Sabbatical leave in 1984 to Nigeria, where traditions and contrasts are very pronounced, served as the catalyst for the emergence of these works.
The conflict is central to the work. It communicates my interest in identifying disparities between persons, between cultural traditions and in renegotiating the contexts within which these differences are seen.
