The Miracles of Santiago

Master of the Legend of St. Godelieve (Flemish)

As the burial place of St. James the Great, Santiago de Compostela has long been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe.  This unusual triptych, which was probably made for a confraternity of pilgrims, comprises a cycle of twelve scenes from the life, miracles and martyrdom of St. James.
