suit

Gianni Versace, Designer (Italian, 1946-1997)

In this suit, Versace slashed the top front and back of the jacket and then used decorative safety pins to hold the garment together. A great example of deconstruction, one of the major fashion trends of the late 20th century, the fabric of the suit is permanently creased to further emphasize its "deconstructed" unfinished look.

(RARE Vintages, New York); purchased by the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2010.
