• The Igbira people of central Nigeria honor the dead at the funerals by wearing delicate metal headpieces with full body costumes.• After the adoption of Islam by the ruling elite in the late 19th century, this tradition was eventually abandoned, and therefore metal headpieces such as this are very rare.
