This image first appeared in the 1754 edition of The Director, where Chippendale described it with great pride: "This design is perhaps one of the best of its kind, and would give me great pleasure to see it executed, as I doubt not of its making an exceeding genteel and grand appearance." It was accompanied by an image with details of the moldings, capitals, and columns, to aid in its manufacture. He also wrote that "the upper doors are to be glazed" and "the doors are different, but may be made alike if required," evidence of his characteristic practical advice and versatility. — ("Eighteenth-Century Furniture Design," May 23, 2009—February 21, 2010, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Conant Galleries)
