江邨魚楽図
Taiga is one of Japan's most important and popular nanga masters. He studied Zen under Hakuin, and associated with the Ōbaku zen monks. He was a master of calligraphy. His love of brushwork is evident in all his paintings, and it often makes them seem to explode with energy. The angled, sharp strokes of the water plants contrast nicely with the long striations of the water, and the expressions on the faces of the figures leave no doubt as to their joyful moods.
