El Capitan

William J. Eastman (American, 1881-1950)

El Capitan, one of the curious red buttes in the Monument Valley in Arizona, drew the attention of Eastman on one of his trips west.

Eastman, a career instructor at the Cleveland School of Art, spent his summers on painting trips to Europe and across America.

Miss Mabel M. Eastman; given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1964.
