Heimann [1881-1960], Milan, Italy, later New York, New York), by 1939; {1} Acquired by Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes, Indianapolis, Indiana, as Titian in a partial purchase, partial trade, in 1939; Clowes Fund Collection, Indianapolis, 1958--present; on long-term loan to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Courtesy of the Clowes Fund, since 1971 (C10075); given to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2016. {1} A photograph of this painting, on whose verso is written an expertise by Lionello Venturi, dated 5 June 1939, subscribing the painting to Titian’s late period, also bears a sticker: “Jakob Heimann, Milano, Via Serbelloni 13.” See IMA, Clowes Archive.
