These two portraits are made of eight photographs. On the left, the protagonist holds two pairs of shoes, flanked by red text naming the days of a business week and a list of hopeful actions: "believe, hold, cling." In the second panel, the shoes have been dropped, the days are out of order, and the verbs have been exchanged for others, less positive: "faint, collapse, fall."

Like many of Simpson's subjects, the figure is seen from the back and eludes recognition. The apparent before-and-after sequence in Untitled anticipates Simpson's work using time-based media, such as film and video, beginning in 1997.
