Hudibras's First Adventure

William Hogarth (English, 1697-1764)

Hudibras and Ralpho happen upon a mob engaged in bear-baiting, which Hudibras considers “idolatrous and pagan.” They prepare to do battle with the crowd led by the Amazon Trulla and Crowdero, the peg-legged fiddler.

Purchased with money from the John Herron Fund for the John Herron Art Institute, now the Indianapolis Museum of Art, in 1911.
