Deep night over the North Sea illuminated by moon glow and the beacon of the Ness Point lighthouse was an effect easier to achieve with gouache on blue paper than with standard transparent watercolors. Such a tonal and atmospheric piece was difficult for a line engraver to reproduce, yet both Lowestoffe Lighthouse and Orford Haven were designed to be engraved. The book, however, was never published.
