Bought by the donors parents in Aswan, Egypt in 1922. It was a wedding gift from the husband to the wife.

The surface of this shawl is almost entirely covered with flat metal strips applied one at a time by hand. The diamonds and chevrons of the intricate design are laid in distinct directions and reflect the light differently.
These types of shawls were produced in Egypt until the mid-1940s and exported to Europe and elsewhere in the Middle East, including to Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. The background fabric is machine-made cotton netting that was imported from Europe.
