Baumann was one of the first resident artists and the first resident printmaker in Santa Fe.

His first studio was on Canyon Road, still in 1918 the Mexican quarter of town. In subsequent years other artists and writers bought and remodeled old adobe houses in this neighborhood and helped perpetuate picturesque “Old Santa Fe.”
