Job and his wife, now alone and reduced to poverty, continue to abide by the lawful obligation of charity. They split their last loaf of bread with a blind beggar. Satan maintains that Job would react otherwise if he were afflicted in his own body. Reluctantly, God permits Satan to test Job a second time.
