Satan afflicts Job with leprosy, which he pours out from a vial onto Job's head. His wife, despairing at his feet, cries: "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God, and die." Job advises that they must accept both the sorrows and the joys that God bestows. Symbols of plague and earthly corruption-grasshoppers, toads, thistles and spiders-appear in the margins.
