Gallery Labels
Halston set out to create garments that achieved the prominent wide-shouldered silhouette of 1980s without the padding. Soft and sculptural, the style of this jacket was known as the “dinosaur” due to the layout of the ruffles. The ruffle in the foreground runs up either sleeve, curving down at the neck to form the collar. The second ruffle runs continuously up one sleeve, behind the neck, and down the other sleeve.
