bed cover (palampore)

Indian

Embroidered and painted Indian textiles were exported to Europe as early as the 17th century. The majority of these types of bedcovers have a single-tree pattern. The double-tree of life motif and the medallion center on this piece is less common than the single-tree motif.

Eliza M. and Sarah L. Niblack collection, Indianapolis; IMA (1933).
