After Dior's death in 1957, Yves Saint Laurent became the chief designer for the House of Dior. In his second collection, Saint Laurent parted from traditional Dior designs and introduced the "Youth Look."
This evening dress, from fall-winter of 1959, has a waistless, tubular silhouette and bubble skirt ending just above the knee. Saint Laurent's choice of fabric, use of a decorative bow, and the ruched and ruffled skirt are, however, evocative of conventional Dior designs.
