Though created 30 years after Marin’s first etchings of the Brooklyn Bridge, this view of the New York skyline seen through the bridge’s cables moves to the same jazzy rhythms. The plodding horse cart at right provides a humorous counterpoint to the energy of the scene.

New York always energized Marin, who created 165 etched views of the city between 1905 and 1945. Each was drawn on site directly on a copper printing plate before the lines were etched into the plate, inked, and printed.
