The European boots on this figure suggest that it was a presentation object offered to local Africans and Europeans. Writing in the German language on the figure's back reinforces this opinion, and in all probability dates this carving to the period of German colonial rule over Tanganyika (now Tanzania), which ended at the end of World War I.
