The beads of this necklace were made by lost-wax casting. This process involves forming the shape out of wax, covering the wax in clay, and then melting the wax away, leaving a hollow shape in the clay into which the metal is poured. The central rectangular bead refers to bamboo doors, which symbolize the all-knowing ruler who sees what is occurring within his village as well as outside of its boundaries.
