One of the most popular pieced quilt patterns is the Baby Blocks, also known as Tumbling Blocks. Each block is made up of three diamond-shaped pieces sewn together to give the illusion of a cube.
At first this pattern seems easy to execute; but in order to achieve the optimum optical illusion, a great amount of precision and planning is required. The placement of dark and light colored fabrics is the most important factor in the success of the design of these quilts. A variety of silk fabrics have been used in this magnificent quilt. An interesting feature of this quilt is the presence of what appears to be a border. The intentional placement of darker fabric on three sides and lighter fabrics on the remaining side as resulted in an engaging optical effect.
