This cloth, which was woven using factory-spun cotton threads, combines the complex visual rhythms inherent in some African textiles with an Islamic aesthetic.
At first glance the arrangement of design elements seems regular and repetitive, but an emphasis has been placed on the central area of the textile. The extensive use of colored yarns in the center defines an area that is reminiscent of the central medallions present in many Middle Eastern rugs. The misalignment of the strips of cloth creates subtle variations and breaks the regularity of a perfect arrangement.
