Edmund Sagot opened a Paris bookshop in 1881. He added fine contemporary prints (estampes modernes) to his stock in 1884 and posters in 1891. In order to advertise the printmakers whose work he published, Sagot commissioned original posters and mailers by his artists, including Alexandre Lunois and Félix Vallotton.
