Ewe weavers are among the most skillful makers of African woven textiles. Traditional Ewe kente cloths are usually woven with cotton threads, but recent examples incorporate silk and rayon.
A trademark of Ewe weavings is the use of representational and figurative patterns throughout the cloth. Popular motifs include animals, human figures, swords, hands, keys, chief’s fly whisks, and ceremonial stools.
