This vest was one of the many pieces that would have been included in a girl’s wedding trousseau. From an early age, a young girl would start preparing elaborate garments for her wedding. The wedding ceremonies often lasted about seven days, and the bride had many garments to choose from for each day.
The design and the use of gold embroidery on this vest were influenced by Ottoman Turkish fashion styles. The Ottomans ruled Tunisia for three centuries.
